Adding a custom domain to your WordPress website is a process that requires a bit more of your time. To ensure you add a custom domain to your website properly, we wrote down steps that will guide you through this whole process.

Log into your domain registrar’s control panel

In a new browser tab or window, log into your domain registrar’s control panel, and find where you manage your DNS settings. Depending on your provider, this may be called Zone File Settings, Manage Domains, Domain Manager, DNS Manager, or something similar.

Here, you’ll create these records so your domain correctly links to your Themes Kingdom site.

Add the A Record

Log in to the sites.themeskingdom.com
Find the site for which you want to add a custom domain in the Your sites section.
Click the Settings button, next to the Go to WP admin button.
Click the Domains link, placed on the left side of the page.
Below the left sidebar section, you’ll see a value A RECORD VALUE containing a specific IP address. Copy this by clicking the COPY button.

Go to your domain registrar’s control panel.

Depending on your provider, you may already have some A Records in place. If so, edit any existing A Records with Host Name @ and paste the IP address you have copied.

Find the area of your DNS settings where you edit your A Records. Create A Record and paste the record you have copied.

If your provider doesn’t accept @ as a Host Name, we recommend leaving the Host/Host Name field blank or entering your domain name without the “www” in front.

Add the CNAME Record

Below the left sidebar section on the Site settings page, you’ll see a value CNAME RECORD VALUE containing letters and numbers. Copy this by clicking the COPY button.

Go to your domain registrar’s control panel.

Depending on your provider, you may already have some CNAME Records in place. If so, edit any existing CNAME Record with Host Name “www” and paste the address you have copied.

Find the area of your DNS settings where you edit your CNAME Records. Create CNAME Record and paste the record you have copied but under the Host section, type in “www”.

Add the custom domain

Go back to the Themes Kingdom account and, under the DOMAINS section, click the ADD NEW DOMAIN button.
Type in the new domain without “www” and click the Add Domain button.

It can take 24 to 72 hours for the connection to start working properly.

Once you receive a confirmation that the new domain that’s added is valid, you will be able to see two domains in the DOMAINS section.

To make the domain name you just added a primary domain, click the MAKE PRIMARY button. Once the setting is done, you will be able to see a confirmation message – “New domain set as primary.”

To test whether the new domain is truly set as primary, click the Go to site button at the top right of the screen. Keep in mind that it may take a couple of minutes to set up your domain. If you happen to see an error, just wait for a few seconds and refresh the page.
